Commitment

  • I've been wanting to introduce you to my family and what better chance to do so, than with the letter "C" and "Commitment".  "Commitment" as in marriage.

My husband and I kind of had a shot-gun wedding and before I say anything else, I'm not disappointed. My husband was about to deploy overseas to the "sandbox" as they say. Danger Zone in my eyes. We had talked about it briefly and decided to just do it. So I made a few phone calls to one who can perform marriages and arranged for it to be done, the day after Thanksgiving. The minister and his family were travelling back home from their holiday with family so we met them half way, at a Subway, in another state. :) Now before you say it, "Subway?", there is a gazebo outside in little wooded park area. How cute, right? It was just the minister, his wife (witness), my hubs, and I. It happened to be FREEZING outside but no matter. My hubs sported a pair of black dress pants and a button down shirt; I rocked a black leather skirt, beige button down, and black leather jacket. I think I had black leather boots on too. ;)

Anyway, the ceremony began...yada yada yada and was over. To me, it was intimate and meaningful (despite frozen fingers and lips). It is something I'll cherish forever and yes, I plan to share a couple of pics :) This is my hubs second marriage and hopefully last. At 36 years old, I finally took the plunge, my first and hopefully last marriage. I always said I didn't believe in divorce (unless infidelity) thus a very strong commitment to my marriage. Seven (7) years later, and we're still married, together for eight (8). Could we have done some things different? Possible, but you know, in my eyes..... marriage is a private affair. It's between me, my spouse, and my God/Goddess (of course and whomever is performing the ceremony).

Close your eyes! The second commitment I made, was getting his name tattoo'd on me. I have a tribal anklet with a heart and his name inside. :) Permanent.

Now that I've begun a journey into Paganism, I'd like to entertain the possibility of handfasting but yet I have many questions about it, which maybe you could shed some light on? I'm sure there are many resources available on handfasting and when I'm ready, I'll have to look into it. AND hope my husband will entertain the idea as well. ;) So as I conclude my post on Commitment I ask you......  how did you pledge your commitment to your spouse and/or significant other?
